Writing creative stories in English for high school students in a different language can be quite daunting. Unless students are adequately stimulated, they can find writing boring and tedious. Who remembers the “Write about what you did in the holidays” task?. A useful approach is to engage learners in discussion where you can get them to relive the experience as if they were actually there again. Creative writing in English can be fun!

The Avatar movie borrows words from the Maori language for it’s indigenous language of the Nav’i people. There are also other similarities in the culture and appearance of the Nav’i that Maori may recognise.
