This is Part 1 of an interview I had with a student who learned fluent and natural spoken English. She discusses the things she did to improve her English. I have written the interview exactly how she said it. You can listen to the audio by clicking on this link.
My question was – so what do you think is a good way to practice English?
OK I think to learn English you have to have several things, to think about several things, the first one being that you have to practice in a natural environment, um so for instance if you’re in homestay accommodation you can speak with your homestay and talk about things that will happen in real life, um also when you go to class you can talk to your teachers and they will tell you exactly what you will need um to progress and also I tried to speak to as many people as I could um like in shops, or catching a bus or whatever just so I could learn new vocabulary. What I did as well was renting DVD’s and so I would sit with my laptop and listen to as many DVD’s as I could um with subtitles and everytime I couldn’t understand a word I would stop the DVD, write the word, try to say it…listen to it again and look for the definition of the word.
