I vividly recall standing on a train platform in Japan jolting out of a daydream by the announcers voice. You see I had heard this same voice announcing the same things over and over again, week after week but had no idea what she was saying. The jolt came when I realised that I could actually understand what she was saying! I had only been in Japan for 3 months and it was an incredible moment. Somehow I had picked up enough language to realise the intent of her message which was “beware, there’s a train coming, be careful”. It was a defining moment as I had been studying informally in my spare time. I had also been trying out my basic Japanese with the native speakers around me and within 6 months I was able to navigate my way around Japan. It is these experiences plus my own language teaching background that has helped me shape the system of learning behind Samespeak and you can find out more about that by signing into the website at www.samespeak.com. Has anyone else had this experience in another country?
